Waverley - Montebello
Waverley is a suburban community located in the Halifax Regional Municipality and lies north of Dartmouth, and south of Fall River. Waverley is east of Halifax on the Dartmouth side and connected to Dartmouth at Port Wallace. The most popular area of Waverley has been the lakefront on Lake William with cottages dating back to the early 20th century. Highway 315 that winds along the lake is known for its turns, twists and rolling hills the route was built on. Most of the original cottages are long gone and houses or boathouses now run along the lake. The landscape in Waverley is very steep with many of the lake front homes across the road and built with quite steep elevations. There are also two smaller lakes, Thomas and Powder Mill.
Waverley was settled by Charles Pillsbury Allen in 1847 and named after the Waverley novels by Sir Charles Scott. The original home built still stands, albeit many renovations at 2550 Rocky Lake Drive. It has a rich history in gold mining. In 1861 gold was discovered and Waverley became a booming town with hotels, saloons, residential camps with highly skilled miners coming from England and Germany. The Shubenacadie Canal also runs through Lake William and Lake Thomas.
Modern-day Waverley is mostly a bedroom community. One of the most notable subdivisions in Waverly is Silversides that was built up into the rolling hills of the area. Smaller areas of one or two streets or private lane also run along the Waverley Road. The most recent subdivision to grow is Spider Lake Estates, which is an area of larger executive homes. In most areas in Waverley the homes have municipal water but still require septic field disposal system.
The Montebello Subdivision is located just off the Waverly Road across from Lake Micmac. Houses here were built in early 1990's to present. There is a wide selection of homes available in both size and style, including semi-detached, bungalow, split entry, side split and two-story homes.
Most amenities, schools and lakes are close by. A French School is located in the Montebello subdivision. There is easy access to Dartmouth Crossing and Mic Mac Mall.

Recreation
The area is home to Shubie Park, a 40-acre urban park long considered the “jewel” of Dartmouth. The Park is a heavily forested greenway, whose beauty is matched only by its historical significance—it is part of the Shubenacadie canal system, named after the Mi’kmaq Nation who used the route as a transportation corridor dating as far back as 4,000 years ago. Today, Shubie Park offers the only fully serviced campground within city limits, including both serviced and unserviced sites, a playground, tennis court, shower, and laundry services. Canoe and kayak rentals are available from May–October and Shubie Beach offers supervised swimming in the summer months. The trail system within the park is extensive and includes many interpretive panels for users to learn from and enjoy.
Each year Waverley Gold Rush Days is a big community event and held in August.
